Space and sound

With its 14 new studios known as the “creation studios” entrusted to six different teams of architects (Architecture Studio, Atelier Züntel Cristea x Rahim Danto Barry, Bunker Palace, Buzzo Spinelli, MMXI / Alexandre Nossovski and Emmanuelle Gaudillat, R architecture), a new chapter in the history of the Maison de la Radio et de la Musique is being written. A chapter dedicated to the future of radio and audiovisual creation as a whole, as well as to the invention of the programs and sounds of tomorrow. Covering a total area of 7,500 m² (including studios and related spaces), the creation studios are integrated into the building inaugurated in 1963 and listed as a Historic Monument since 2018. They join the renowned Auditorium and Studio 104 of Radio France to form a group of spaces offering the very best in French audiovisual production: unique venues distinguished by their versatility and design, cutting-edge creative tools, and the excellence of Radio France’s teams. Like the Auditorium and Studio 104, which rank among the major concert halls in the capital, these new studios have been designed to meet the most demanding technical standards and to easily adapt to future uses as technology and practices evolve. They have been conceived to host a wide variety of projects and to support the entire French audiovisual sector — from radio fiction to music, television, and new digital formats. Part of these new spaces is intended to accommodate spectators, allowing the Maison de la Radio et de la Musique to further expand its public access capacity — a reflection of its mission as a living, open public service. The completion of this project, whose construction began in December 2021, marks the final stage of an ambitious transformation of the Maison de la Radio et de la Musique launched in 2008, with the aim of making Radio France the epicenter of audiovisual creation and sound innovation in Europe.
