Build? Yes, but new narratives—from multiple perspectives. To rethink the questions, especially those around housing. Under what conditions do we live? Housing is the small lens through which to observe cities—the policies that shape them, the priorities they set—and the people who inhabit them: where they live, how they live, and with whom.
This is about Brest, the focus of a study trip designed by AHA for the 4th cohort of the IDHEAL Workshop participants.
Produced to document this journey, this podcast is a sonic drift from Place Guérin—a symbol of an urban struggle for the Future in Recouvrance on the right bank of the Penfeld—to Rue de Siam in the reconstructed city center, and on to the Crozon Peninsula, across the local life basin. It seeks to shed light on the roles of the actors shaping the city, from Brest residents to the workshop participants engaged in the study trip.
It also invites reflection on one’s own role. Tourism, property, NIMBYism, real estate rent, investment—housing crises are like traffic jams: we are not merely “in” them; collectively and individually, we are part of the problem.
