Based in Nancy, Studiolada is a collective of six architects, each operating through their own single-member LLC, alongside salaried collaborators under a shared professional partnership (SCM). The strength of the collective lies in the balance between individuality and collaboration: each member is free to make decisions and fully responsible for them, yet all projects are developed and produced together. This “mode” was chosen for its non-binary nature—it is at once singular and plural.
Projects, whether arising from public tenders or direct commissions, are typically led by individual members, occasionally in pairs, and only rarely by three. Yet every project benefits from collective discussion, gaining from the feedback, critique, and support of the group.
The collective finds its most tangible expression in a shared 160 m² studio at the heart of Nancy. In the sequence of rooms within this former townhouse, daily life unfolds through encounters, collaboration, and shared practices. This environment echoes the architecture school studio—a space that instills confidence in what one can and wants to create.
Studiolada defines both the form and substance of its practice around core values: care for the common good, thoughtful use of resources, commitment to public service, participatory processes, short supply chains, and circularity. These principles shape a practice attuned to its territory, its resources, and its dynamics, while always operating collectively.
